Default Engine value question 70 LS5 454

I,ve owned my 68 convertible since 1984 and I,m in the process of painting it. The car is an original 435hp turbo jet L71 427 that motor was gone before I purchased the car

It does have an original 70 corvette LS5 454 in it now Block/heads edelbrock manifold/750 carb ...runs good

My question is what would the 70 LS5 be worth to an owner wanting a numbers correct car ?

I was wanting to build or buy a nice crate motor in the 540ci range.
If the original LS5 was worth it I,d pull it and sell it

Any comments would be appreciated

Default Well...

It woulnt be "NUMBERS CORRECT" unless you sold it to the guy that had the original car it came out of.

Something about the VIN...

The numbers on the left rear bell housing are #3963512

The numbers on the right front block are #T02250 ZU

Also in the same area are the numbers #70S406878

The Heads are # 3964290 I think

Is this a LS5 block/heads ? Thanks in advance

Whats it worth ?

Also heres what I could save of the build sheet from the gas tank
picture of build sheet

Yikes! $9500 seems way out of line unless you just happen to own the car that this motor came out of. Maybe I should just sell the LS-5 I've got that's just collecting dust in my shop. A real bargain at $9300. Any takers???

Are the motors somehow related to the vin ?
I thought they just had date codes such as what month they were produced , but not vin related ???/
Lets hear it

that engine came out of 1970 vette number 6878... find that vette and you might be a winner!! (If the owner cares).

so the vin would be.. 1970 registry has #6863 and 6892. I think you could actually register the engine if you wanted to. Take out an ad in the NCRS driveline magazine...

so you are looking for vette with vin #

194370S406878

or if it was a vert (you have no way of knowing)

194670S406878

Thanks that cleared up my question ...I,m betting that 70 got wrecked and the motor pulled ...
If its not worth much how big can I go with it 496/502 ?
