Default Shafiroff dynoing my motor tomorrow....

This is kind of like giving birth and not knowing what the sex will be.

I have Shafiroff racing building me a motor and tomorrow is our dyno day. Mike is supposed to be giving me a call once it is all said and done.

540 ci - I asked for 700 hp out of a hydraulic setup and they said they could do it. Brodix aluminum block, good Dart heads, Callies gragonslayer crank, etc......

Of course, once it is all installed and running, I will probably get Lars in for a 'chassis dyno' time with the car.

Hate to say it, but I'm nervous.

699 hp would suck.....

I've heard those "gragonslayer" cranks really put out the power...

Ultimately it will be interesting to compare the engine dyno results to your rwhp results after the install is complete. 700 hp at the crank should still give you more than you can use at the wheels!

for a tiny bit more $$$ you could have gotten the saturday night special 598 with 835hp and not had to worry about maybe hitting 700

brianlewis60 - The way we did this motor, the Saturday Night Special 598 would not have been a cost savings. I figured we had enough torque with the 540 ci motor; not to mention I wanted to stick with 2 1/8 headers w/ 3.5 inch collectors instead of the 2 1/4, 4" the 598 would have needed. The 540 will drive better because of the setup.

I did not get a chance to call Mike today to see what the motor did. I plan on calling him in the morning though and will post the results once I have them.

Update - Just spoke with Mike. The dyno is broke and they are in the process of repairing it; something about one of the water tanks having an issue.

My motor is physically on the dyno. As soon as the dyno is fixed, we will get everything knocked out.

To be continued....

O.K., I'm happy.

Shafiroff got the dyno fixed today and my little guy got it's dyno time.

It ended up putting out 706.9 HP @ 6,300 rpms and 650 TQ at 4,700 and 4,800 rpms. 32 degrees of total timing.

Shipping tomorrow, here next week.

I'm satisfied with what we got out of this one.

No problem. Essentially, I went with the 540 ci motor that had the extended cruising version (hydraulic roller) with the exception that I had them bump compression to 10:1 instead of the 9.5:1. The cam specs are:

646 lift on intake and exhaust
262 / 270 duation
114 lobe separation

We did go with Dart Pro 1 335 heads. I believe the intake is an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap.

Nothing magical but it all works well together.

Good news!! That ought to be fun!

Sounds like a good combo....actually very similar to mine during it's first incarnation. Mine made 732HP@6200 and 678ft lbs@4600. That was with a 262/272@.050 solid roller on a 112 LSA. .672/.675 lift. So subtracting lash, I had a very similar lift and you actually had more effective duration. I had bigger heads, but they were stock unported, not CNC'd like the 335's.

Looks like it all added up similar huh? You've got a 10 sec ride there when you hook it up!

Except that thing has a dual plane on it? That would surprise me.....what carb is it?

Good results,

JIM
