Default 1977 OEM Tires??

Does anyone know the correct tire that came from the factory on a 1977 Corvette (white letter)?

Thanks!

GR70x15 Radials

A pick I have shows Firestone Steel Radial 500
It could have also come with Goodyear Steelgard

2986 were ordered Blackwall Radials
46227 where white letter radial tires at a $57 upcharge.

Does that help?

Brian.

GR70x15, converts to a metric size of 225/70R15.

Some of the models after 1978 also came with 255/60R15. However, if your suspension is not fresh, these may rub the fenders when turning.

Per the M.F. Dobbins book, the standard tire was a Goodyear Custom Steelgard and the Firestone Steel Radial 500, both in GR70x15 size.

They weren't sized that way in '77.

I am looking at a super low mile 77 and just wondered if the tires were original to the car.

Firestone Steel Radial 500 seems to be the proper tire!

Thank you all!

I hope that the tires are aftermarket OEM tires. If those tires are from 1977, I would be afraid to drive it home.

I still have the factory spare up under my 1976 (never been on the ground) and I can see belt pops all over it. Remember, time kills rubber just as much as miles.

If it has the factory tires, your first stop should be to get some new shoes for that thing.

One of mine separated at high speed in the 70s. The spare was used to get to a tire store & later separated completely in the spare tire holder (it should have worked for a spare!).
Some 77 info. on my website.
