Headlight Actuators - which is correct??
On an '81, is the rear vacuum tube on each actuator that bends; is it supposed to point in towards the center or out?
Having a disagreement with a supplier as to which is correct. I say they the rear tube is supposed to point to the inside; he says they are to point towards the outside. Pointing outside does not make sense as the vacuum lines are coming from the center of the car where the vacuum canister is at.
Did GM make a change over the C3 years?
Thanks,

Le Mans Master
good question!
On my '78 they point to the inside so I assumed they all would but if you look at the diagram in the DocRebuild catalog it shows in the drawing that they point to the outside so it's possible they did change it at some point.

Think I have the answer
According to Dr Rebuild's page; 68-79 has the rear tube pointing to side, not the center. Then for 80-82 GM swapped them around and have the rear tube pointing in or towards the center. I guess this is when the vacuum canister moved...have not been able to determine that yet...unable to get Dr Rebuild's diagram to show-up.
But this explains why I need a left actuator for my passenger side and a right side for the driver's. Of course if I had bought a new pair of them, I would never have discovered this problem.
