Default How rare is your Vette?

Here is an interesting calculation to do in your spare time:
>
>For each option on your car, calculate what ratio of vettes for your year has your car's exact options. If your car does not have an option, then calculate what ratio of vettes (like your car) also did not have the option. Make sure you include what ratio has your color code. Multiply all the ratios together (you should get a a very small number). Now, multiply that small number by the number of total vettes built in that year.

Voila!!! You have just calculated an estimate of the number of vettes made to your car's exact specifications. Counting the color, I calculated that only about 4 77 vettes were made exactly as mine.
Assuming that only 1 out of 4 77 vettes are still on the road, I can say that my 77 vette MAY be the only one left in the world with the exact same option package. Hee, hee.

It's fun to speculate on how many Corvettes may be like yours, but that's all it is -- speculation. Without actual documentation from GM from which genuine percentages could be derived, no one will ever have a correct answer for "how many."

A 68 L-36 with solid lifters, forged bottom end, oval iron top end, and L88 induction. Ahhh...they built a few thousand like that.

I multiplied out all the percentages and I figured out that they made 3/4 of one car like mine.

<stating the obvious>
I don't think it's as easy as that... The black book has lots of good stats, but without searching build sheets you can't know how many are identical.

So for my car ('81) I have electric windows, 13567/40606, or 33%. I have a 4 speed, 5757 made. Doesn't necessarily mean that there were 1923 4-speeds with power windows.. Maybe all 4-speeds came with power windows..

</stating the obvious>

But it's fun anyway, so here's the stats on my non-rare '81

Total '81s - 40606
power locks - 36322 - 89.45%
power drivers seat - 29200 - 71.91%
rear defogger - 36893 - 90.86%
electric mirrors - 13567 - 33.41%
4-spd - 5757 - 14.18% -
al wheels - 36485 - 89.85%
power antenna - 32903 - 81.03%
Beige - 3842 - 9.46%
AM/FM/Cassette - 22892 - 56.38% (always thought it odd that the glove box has 8-track tape holders, perhaps it was shipped with an 8-track then swapped??)

Or roughly 44 cars identical to mine.

I think it has CA emissions but I'm not certain so I'm not including it.
I don't know about the Gymkhana suspension, heavy duty shocks, performance axle ratio, or stock tires. How can I find out these things (other than the tires which I couldn't care less about)?

I also find it odd and quite annoying that I have all the power options available EXCEPT cruise control.

edit: Hey, now that I think about it, that makes mine even more rare. Only 8084, 19.19%, didn't have cruise, so now I'm down to 9. Then calculating in the other options (either the have % or don't have %) and I'm probably down to around 5.

The C3 registry site: ( http://www.c3registry.org/index.php?job=Home ) already does this for you: my 1981 with all the options listed comes out to be: 1 out of only 22 cars sold with the exact same options as mine. Only 14% of a total production run of 40,606 had manual transmissions (5689).

There used to be a Corvette web site where you submited your specs,options,year of corvette and they did this calculation...I did it two years ago and that was the calculated result...not real accurate but interesting...don't think it means much....

Maybe the fact I have power windows and manual door locks makes it rare....

Default 1 of 10 In 1962, Rare Enough?

A similar subject was presented as a thread about two months ago right after I looked in the C1 Vette registry. I then found out that a total of 9 other persons ordered a 1962 Vette exactly as I did with the same options. Taking the issue a little further I wondered how many of the 9 others after 44 years still owned the Vette as I do. Interesting, No? Now how rare is that statement.

The Original Window Sticker of 107512.
