Default 69 Power Windows

I am in the process of putting my 69 together and I am having problems with the power windows. I took everything out of the doors and cleaned all of the old grease out and installed new power window motors. The problem that I am having is that the windows go down fast put when they go up they are very slow. Does anybody know what the remedy might be?

Thanks

Check the power wires and fuse. The wires could be the wrong gauge, poorly spliced, wrong fuse size, etc. Anything that will prevent the motor from being able to pull enough amps might cause that.

More than likely the springs are shot. Not a real fun job to do, but the windows will go up alot better with new ones.

I was hoping that it wasn't the springs. Do I have to take every thing out of the doors to replace them or can I do them inside the door?
Thanks

Check to see that the up/down switches are not dirty and that the contacts are OK. If burnt or dirty, that can cause slow action (increases the switch resistance in the circuit).

Good point. I didn't think about that.

Yes you need to take the whole regulator assy out of the door. Also the spring loaded assy can be dangerous when loaded. Do not remove the motor from the regulator until you have secured the arm with a bolt or vise grip. You will be amazed how much stronger the new spring will be. Also while you are in there, check the teeth on the regulator. Most vendors sell a repair piece for bad teeth.

Default Power Windows

I removed the regulator and found that I did not have any tension in the spring. How do I put a pre load on the spring, is there a trick to it?
thanks
