Floor Jack Drops On Its Own
Folks,
I have a 3-ton Craftsman floor jack that lifts well. However, it will slowly lower over a few minutes if I don't get my stands in place and bring it down by hand. The handle is turned fully clockwise. I read the instructions and can't find any adjustment or troubleshooting suggestions. Any thoughts on how to get it to lock in place until I'm ready for it to come down?
Thanks, Steve

Sounds like its low on fluid, look for where to fill it, usually by where the handle connects to the body, fill it with the jack collapsed with a hydraulic oil, I use an old squirt can, but if you are the least bit unsure I'd take it to someplace that fix's them, I wouldnt mess with it if I didnt have confidence in my abilities. New ones are pretty reasonable nowadays. If its leaking it needs to be fixed. Good luck and be careful,,,Peace,,, Moosie

I just went through the same thing. 4 ton Craftsman black and yellow floor jack that started leaking hydraulic fluid after 2 years. Thought about fixing the seal but realized that it would be easier to pick up a new one for $99! Unfortunately they are all made in China now. That makes them cheap (inexpensive) but also cheap (crappy).

Sears isn't the old Sears. To get a replacement you need the original receipt. Who the f*$k keeps receipts for garage tools? You can try. I agree w/the other members don't use it, get rid or replace it now.

I have the receipt but it's out of warranty by a few months. Certainly worth a try, but I'll probably just replace it and let my son use this one for pretend moon launches
