Default Ground clearance with ZZ502

Hi,
I have 69(originally 427 car) which has 454 crate block and the car and
I'm wondering how the ground clearance to oil pan will go if I put ZZ502 on it.
Is that much different in ground clearance between 454 and 502 ?

All the Gen VI crates will have a tight clearance.....it has been recommended to me to replace the 454HO stock pan with a Moroso part 20411 to gain clearance.

Hope this helps

That's what I did with my zz454. Not sure what the part # was...but it's a Moroso 7qt pan. Just be sure it seals when installed. Because it's hand built they sometimes have problems in the corners with the oil pan gasket sealing. Ask me why I know!!!

The stock zz502 pan will not fit - you have to get another pan, like a Milodon, which will fit and will give appropriate clearance. Any vendor should know the issue and be able to help. For example, scoggin-dickey guys know the clearance issues and can swap out the pan before they ship the motor.

Hope this helps...
Cheers,

I was looking for a pic I took back when I first installed RamJet in my 70 coupe. I placed a ruler under the car showing 3.5" ground clearance of the stock 502 6qt oil pan. Couldn't find the pic so you will just have to take my word I ran with the stock oil pan for a short time before I tore a small hole in it when I rolled over a standard single post shop lift. I looked into the smaller GM oil pan as a potential solution but backed away from that when I learned the oil windage tray would not fit. The winged Moroso pan is the best solution. I have the 17" TT II's on the car, which probably explains the 1/2" difference that Rich has.

The Stock 6 quart oil pan does fit, however IMHO is an accident waiting to happen.

It could be a problem...but I've learned what speed bumps to avoid,etc...I was going to fit a Moroso so I could lower front one more inch...not sure yet but think if I get a Moroso, and lower vette one 1", I'll be where I am right now...with 4" clearance...

Rich, I now have 5" ground clearance with the Moroso Pan. The McLeod scatter shield is now the lowest point (4.5") where as before, the oil pan was the first thing to hit.
