Default 1968 Dimmer switch pedal

Does your 68 have a dimmer switch pedal? If so, how is it attached to the floor?

Not really a pedal like they installed on the 69 up, more of a button screwed to the floor under the carpet.

Is it attached on top of the carpet?

No, it's under the carpet but the 69 up had a pedal over the button because the 68 style wore the carpet out faster.

My 68 pedal had aluminum rivets holding it in. I am talking about the pedal, not the switch. And it's under the carpet.

According to the '68 AIM, there was a pedal for the dimmer switch.
The same pedal was used on '69 also ...

see AIM UPC1, A13 for 1968
see AIM UPC1, A17 for 1969

Part number 3940687 stamped on the backside ....

Damn, I'm sorry I was told by the vette only shop that did my vette that 68 didn't have that pedal.

I'm not going to answer any more of these questions, I've been wrong too many times.:o

So, it does have a pedal. That explains the little metal underbody reinforcement plate mounted below the dimmer switch. I assume the pedal is riveted thru the floor and thru this metal plate.

"And it's under the carpet"

The carpet lays on top and covers the whole pedal? or is the carpet slit where the pedal attachs to the floor board?

Thanks! Before I asked the question, I had thumbed thru the AIM about 5 times and did not find it.

Are the 68 and 69 pedals the same?

Not to worry, The 68's are so misunderstood

It was under the carpet (the whole pedal) on my car but I'm not really sure if that was the way it was originally.

Whats really strange is that the pedal from my early 68 (Nov. 67) is slightly different than the picture that FrankVincent shows. The recess for the switch is smaller and it has no part number.

On my 68 (all factory original), which I have owned since 1972, the pedal is under the carpet and mounts on top of the dimmer switch so that when you step on the pedal it activates the dimmer switch.
It gets installed before the carpet goes down, no slits or cuts in the carpet.
Once the carpet is down you can't see any trace of the pedal but you can feel it in the upper left corner on the driver side.

My 68 is the same as yours, under the carpet.
