I found these interesting articles on Robert Morrison, the founder of MFG and Corvettes fiberglass history.

Some of this dialog reinforces the concern that some of us have with the aftermarket body panel houses that still use hand layup. (Vanacor and others) If you can find SMC body panels you will be far better off in the long run.
