Default Help me fighting cabin heat!

Weather is getting real hot here, and cabin heat is unbearable! I bypassed the heater pipes and closed shut the passenger side plenum and still getting a tiny stream of a HOT air from A/C vents! that drives me crazy! when I touch the A/C ducts I feel them very hot, how can I seal that heat out of the cabin???

The car has a factory style heat shield but I feel its useless, the heat still boils the sweat of my feet!

I am thinking of shielding the whole interior plus the inner firewall with some kind of heat barriers. I have found this on ebay, anyone knows about it? :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Corve...QQcmdZViewItem

Also if anyone has a success story about that subject please let me know what he did.

Pull your carpets and seal up any holes in the firewall and make sure the grommets are in good shape. Then put down Reflectix everywhere, then put the carpet back down.

It takes a Lot to get all the heat out if you can do it at all. You can limit it quite a bit tho, its a lot of work but all that expensive. The stuff you posted from ebay is a partial fix, I would add Nuprene under that. Glue it all down well with 3M spray adhesive. Cover the entire firewall as much as you can get to, pull the dash and do it right. Fix the seal on the kick panel vent, make sure the outside air flapper on the pass side of the wiper tray seals properly.
Yet annother fix it to wrap the exhaust. Summit sella a 2"x50' wrap. It keeps the heat in the pipe instead of letting it radiate into the floor. Ceramic coated headers help too.

I used the 80 mil Rattletrap (made by Fatmat)....doubled some where I could. Took out a lot of tire road noise. Really cut down on the heat. I put in some alumimum looking stuff on top of that. The carpet went in fine.

It was a long process but the interior looks great and its quiet and less noise.

100 SF Roll...had some left over.

http://www.fatmat.com/Rattle%20Trap/...bulk%20pak.htm

Had a little smell for about 2 weeks....went away.

I was real skeptical at first but I used the foil covered buble wrap from Lowes. WOW ! A $20 roll and a have no heat and reduced alot of road noise, but tops are off all the time so who cares about noise. I put it everywhere I could, and don't forget to wrap the trans tunnel !

Remove all carpet and have a friend hit the front of the firewall with compressed air to find leaks. Seal 'em all then insulate with one of the materials mentioned above.

Install a valve on both lines to the heater core. If you only do the supply line, heat will work its way back down the return line after 30 min or so of driving.

I put Temp insulation between footwell splash shields on my 69 502 reducing cabin heat by a bunch...very confortable with Hedmon headers etc...

Best way to cure radiant heat is on the "heat source" side.....

1.) Get Reflectix at Home Depot in the building materials section. Also buy a can of drywall bead spray adhesive and 2-3 rolls of foil tape (not cloth duct tape). Pull up the carpet in the front of the cabin (plus the vertical area right behind the seats. Use spray to put sections of Reflectix down on the floor/tunnel/under radio & shifter/firewall/etc.
2.) Check out your vacuum operated (or manually operated) dampers in the heater/A/C system. Make sure they work correctly and that any seals are in good shape. If you need to replace seal material, get black craft foam sheets (about 1/8" thick) at Michael's Craft store. The most critical damper is the one at the far right side of the windshield wiper well. If it doesn't open fully (to seal off outside air) with MAX A/C setting, all the other things won't help you.
3.) If the gasket on the back edge of the hood is not sealing well (put some lumps of clay at 2-3 spots around it and close the hood...look for un-smashed clay when you lift it back up), replace the hood seal.

Believe it or not I used self adhesive duct insulation (Frost King)from Home Depot. I was concerned that FatMax did not have a R value which you need to keep heat out.

It comes in rolls 2ft wide by I think 10 ft. It is a self adhesive rubber type base with a foil topping. I doubled it in the firewall and foot areas and sealed it with foil tape before installing the carpet.

It works VERY WELL. No heat in the cabin ANYTIME!

I put a folded towel across the part that my hood closes to near the windshield for a trial. i closed the hood and drove and guess what? no heat at all. i then replaced the original foam at that location and removed a couple of shims on my hood latches making the hood shut tighter. it worked great! this was done after bypassing heater hoses, putting heat barrier under carpet etc. which none of those fixed the simple problem i had. good luck.

sounds like yours was still allowing outside air past the flapper, seal or operator on it may not be working.

I did what 73C3 did and worked great for me in the Texas heat.
