Okay,
I have been looking for an original carb for some time but there were only about 900 ever made so they are quite rare. The carb was probably made in batches so the date code is probably the same. So I won't get stung in the future with a restamp I simply wanted someone with an original to let me know the date code of manufacture so I could be wary if one comes up for sale.
Now everybody knows !!!

Thanks for the advice. My car was built April 16th 1972 so my build date for the carb should be prior to that. I thought specific serial numbers would be made in batches and this would give me an idea if a 7042216 had been restamped with the date of manufacture being different.

Chris,

your carb should be M1. A2 B2 C2 D2 followed by FF

you may be able to argue a K1

I purchased a 7042216 dated J (September) for my October build date.
I only found two for sale since I have been looking (many years). Hope this helps!
