Default HELP doors are locked

Both driver and passenger doors are locked and frozen. The key won't unlock the doors. When it was just the passenger door that was stuck, I couldn't get the door to unlock with the manual release (this doesn't have power locks).

My mechanic (very experienced with Vettes) tried at the close of business to use a slim jim with no luck. He said there is a plate that covers the mechanism.

So what do I do now? This is a 78.

Thanks

The mechanisim is gummed up from all the years. The old grease is all dried up in there. You need to soak the mechanisim down with PB Blaster or some such stuff and free the mechanisim. It will be easier to free up if you remove the seat and remove the inner door panel so you can get in there. Not too difficult. Work the mechanisim over and over once you have it free and clean it good before relubing it up.

There was a thread a while back that had some good pics on how to get the doors open but I never could get that to work in my case. I just used a hack saw blade to cut the striker off and bought a replacement. It sounds a LOT worse than it is. They are cheap and easy to replace.

There are several ways to get it open.

Yes probably best not to post openly.
I like it,think I'll make one because there are times when the mechanism is so locked up from dirt or being bent or wore out that my method wont work. That could be the case for the OP.
Thanks

Could you Guys PM me as well. I have had to deal with two stuck door locks in the 81 and 82 within the past two weeks. Sick and tired of removing the door panels from the inside with the door latched.
Thanks.
