Default Alternator & P/Stg Mounting - Do I have something backwords

Please take a look at the pic. Not sure why or what happened, but my p/stg cap is now blocked by the cast alternator mounting bracket and the add'l adjustment bracket will not mount to anything due to hitting the pulley portion of the alternator. Also, I can't even rotate the alternator into place because it now hits the tall valve covers I put on. Is this what I get for trying to reuse stock bracketry on a modified motor? Does anyone have any similar pics to share?

Nothing wrong! That's the way they are. It's a bugger getting the PS cap out!

Looks like you just need to loosen cap,and tilt it as you remove it..my stock 78 L-82 is that way..

Everything looks normal. I have the same issues. I bought and planned on using an aftermarket alternator mounting bracket, but there was no way the lower bracket was going to allow the p/s cap to get in there. I even tried milling it on my milling machine to make room and that didn't work either. I ended up using the factory lower bracket and the billet upper rod for the alternator and it all works fine. It is a little tight getting the cap off, but it will come out of there. If you keep your existing alt belt, you'll have to pull the valve cover to get the belt on and then put the valve cover back on.

I thought the same thing when I replaced the PS pump on my '79 L82, takes a while but you can get the cap out to check the fluid level...
