Default Curtis74's new Vortec Engine

Well the time has come. Here is Curt's new engine, ready to swap into his beautiful 1974 Corvette. The car currently has a tired but clean L82 that runs good but lacks...bahls...

I found him a rebuildable long block out of a 1996 Chevy Tahoe. It's a 350, factory roller engine, with one piece rear main seal and better piston ring pack designs. The engine was bored to 355, and the pistons were replaced with flat tops for a rough final of 9.75:1 compression. The cam is an aggressive marine cam for Vortec engines.

The serpentine are F-body brackets, with some delete brackets and custom application pulleys. It looks like it'll fit okay under his after market Stinger hood.

Before it goes in we'll spend a day or two cleaning and looming the wires and vacuum tubing under his hood to make it all clean and tidy. Here is the car it's going in, and a few pics of the engine.

Swapping will commence this coming Monday.

Curt will be keeping the headers and side pipes...we both love them so much on our cars.

Yeah we have a local chassis dyno and we'll be spending a few days out there running and tuning.

Thanks so much, it's been a fun build. I will take lots of swap pics as well as some of it on the dyno.

That thing is the bees knees!!! I don't much about engines (I know, shame on me), but that thing looks like the business.

Thanks so much for the compliment.

It's actually just as simple as the description at the top. Easy and simple are two things I like a lot, and I chose components that would get good results without breaking the bank or causing a lot of miss match situations.

The engine is a stock Vortec engine bored a bit, the heads are after market RHS Vortec heads, marine cam, factory roller, gear set for timing, paint, Vortec manifold, valve covers, and brackets. Simple.

I'll post all about the trip to the Dyno. Curt currently has a TH350 like I do, but will someday change to an overdrive transmission like a TH200R4.

Thanks, you'll learn as you go...that's what I did. I just jumped in and built my own engine. I knew nothing of mechanics before that.

Thanks, Curt and I both kind of came up with that. We wanted a way to put my name on it and so I had that plate made up. I fits perfectly and really compliments things without coming off as tacky...I think.

That should be a real nice engine for the '74.

Do the RHS heads come CNC ported?
