Default Brake Caliper sealant

I am replacing the seals on my front caliper and my corvette book says to apply a sealant on the seals. I went to my local NAPA store and they told me never to do that.

Can I get some thoughts from the experts?

Thanks,
Tony

Nope, no sealant of any kind used on the seals, just lube them with brake fluid when installing.

I have read where it was recommended to use some Permatex on the dust boots, but NEVER on the seals themselves....

Sorry I meant the boots not the seals. Permatex is what I was thinking also.

Being cheap, I used what I had- anerobic sealer. RTV would work too. The anerobic sealer hardens in the absence of air- tight fit between the boots and the caliper, so I put a coat of it on. I didn'r want to open a big tube of RTV just to do the boots and then toss it next time I needed some after it set up.

As stated, lube the piston seals with brake fluid, install the boots and assemble. Are you using the lip seals or did you go to O rings and sleeved calipers?

for a car that might sit and not get driven all the time o-rings but they require a different piston.

If spring would get here to Central Oregon, I'd drive it everyday to work.

Thanks for all the help.
