7T1,
I remember the term and description 'FIREMIST' from years ago. I first remember it on Caddys. I didn't know there were any paint options in 71except for 'primer' which was usually coded 'spec' on the trim tag. Where can I find the info you have...it's pretty interesting?
Regards,
Alan

The paint is a PPG BC/CC Steel Cities Gray.....and it does change colors depending on the light, from a gray metallic, to silver metallic, to a green metallic tint. People that see it always tell me they just love the paint.

The Corvette sales brocure for those years will have the Firemist optional colors listed...but I don't have one. Selected colors in the 'standard' paint list could be given a "Firemist" option upgrade for a relatively small amount of extra charge. In the early 70's, the Donnybrook Green and the Ontario Orange were two of the colors of which you could request the F/M option; I'm sure there were a couple of others.

Steel Cities Grey had always been my favorite color.
It was just a lucky coincidence that I ended up with one.
(I had considered others).
That being said, I still love this color.
It always seems to turn heads.
If that's the color you love, go for it.

Yup....it's a rare color indeed.
My vehicle was painted four times and brought back
to the 988 paint code with black leather
interior...drool.
Come on down to West Palm, I'll take you for a ride
you'll never forget...
check out the avatar the whole car looks
way better.
Good Luck! Dave
PS: everybody has a price they would sell thier cars for......

During the "chrome bumper" era of 'early sharks' there were only three colors offered in firemist paint, Steel Cities Gray is the rarest, both Ontario Orange and War Bonnet Yellow were very popular during '71 & '72 model years.
The paint does give off a unique appearance when viewed in the sun.

Laguna Grey is beautiful on a Corvette. I'm sure I would love that as much as Steel Cities.
On a roadster, I would be tempted to put on a white top.
Your buddy's car is beautiful. That saddle interior is a nice look.

My 72 was SCG from the factory....I told my wife while I was vette shopping......color choices were..in order 1) black 2) white 3) silver
when I bought the car it was black WooHoo!! happened so fast, really didn't do my homework, only after I got it home and started the detective work did I realize it was a numbers matching CORRECT sbc coupe...and factory color was SCG with red interior (the most popular combo) previous owner read my mind when she handed me the boxes with new carpet and leather seat covers...BLACK!!
When I finally laid out the vision SCG w/black interior to my wife...she laughed out loud, I asked what that was for, she reminded about the 72vette her practice husband drove home....and promptly had repossessed....Steel Cities Grey w/ black interior..she said "So I was supposed to keep the car and get rid of the husband" I told her I would have married her sooner!!! then I told her not to get any ideas....

More good input, thanks everyone. Great looking cars.
That Laguna color on the '70 models is indeed gorgeous, and looks pretty close to a color that will be an option on the '09 models.
