Dupont chroma base #5563k Corvette Silver Mist paint,
requires you to select an additional tint color.
I think the tint choice was either - green, blue, yellow
I choice the blue.

Corvette Silver Mist Dupont Croma color base.

Thanks oldgto!!

Mine is very old and tired and thin. His is real fresh. I'm going up to Charlotte in a couple of weeks. Hope to get up with DUB and talk about getting it renewed.
Bodywork and paint are things I won't even attempt. I know I would just make a complete mess of it, waste a bunch of time, and have to seek professional intervention in the end.

I commend you for taking it on!

I own a 1972 Steel Cities with Red interior! And I have the build sheet to prove the Red interior which was rare

hard color to match with original...Dupont only color that is close

I just painted mine what's supposed to be steel cities gray. I've never seen the color in person so I don't know how close it is to the real thing.

That looks great. Did you paint it yourself?

That would be about 7% SCG Vettes for 1971 and 8.5% for 1972. Considering that we're talking 35+ years ago it's no surprise that they aren't on every street corner....

Good Luck!

My 72 came from the factory in STGM and its going back the same way

My wife and I saw a SCG car at a cruise night a couple of years ago and had a little argument over what color it was- I said gray and she said green. We asked the owner and he said 'gray' so it made me feel better, especially since I'm color blind! Since then I have been looking to buy a chrome bumper car and ran into a '71 BB that is being restored by a local shop that only restores Vettes. It is currently black but original color is SCG- if things work out it could be mine in May so these will be the longest three months of my life! Long range plan will definitely be to bring it back to original color.

Well, everyone is right. The color is called "Gray", but there is indeed a hint of green in that paint. It's subtle, but it's there.
If you've ever had one one side by side with a silver car, you would immediately see the difference.
Above is a picture of mine. My all time favorite Vette color. I just happened to be lucky to end up with this. I could have very easily ended up with something else. Hope all works out well for you.

I don't know where I found this picture and the resolution isn't great but it does show some different hues in the paint.

Thanks Alan!

I haven't been able to spend much time with it yet - here's a few photos from the day I purchased it. Lots of documentation (including the tank sticker.)

I have always like the 71-72 Steel Cities Gray cars and over the years have been on the lookout for a SCG car. A 71 Coupe SCG project popped up local here in North Alabama and I jumped on it. I will do a complete frame off restoration on this car over the next couple years.

Congrats on your new project!! Have you posted pics of it on the forum already? If not, please do, and allow us to follow along with your restoration.

This car is a keeper for me, and I plan to do a frame-off one day, but for the next few years, I'd like to drive it and enjoy it.

Not much to look at but it is a 71 numbers matching 71 SCG Coupe, L48, PW, PS, PB, AC, Auto car with good bones. Only thing missing off the car is the Carb, Air Cleaner, Alt, LH Parking Light Grill and Antenna.

My goal for 2017 is to strip the body of all paint and Bondo, repair cracks/front end damage than put everything back on the car for fit test and bring it back to life and get everything working before I pull the body and start the restoration.

Looks like a solid car to start with. Good luck on your project!
