Default Putting a 454 BBC in 1980 L-48

Need some help... I have purchased a 454 from a 73 vette and have rebuilt it boring it .060 over all edelbrock power.. Air gap intake, 850
carb torkerII cam and headers. I need some advice on what I will need to place this in my 80 Corvette. I know I will need a new Hood for sure
but what about mounts, water pump, ps, transmission( I will be running a T400)

You'll need to start hunting for the brackets and pulleys- the PS, Alt, and AC all use different brackets for SB to BB..

The TH400 will be fine- I'd think about going thru it- new seals and clutches never hurts, or installing a Trans-Go shift kit at the very least. If you're going to a little bigger cam, you can get a convertor for a TH350 for a pickup. Little bit looser (higher stall speed) than a 400 convertor, and still not enough to require all kinds of coolers..

Motor mounts are no problem and the accessory drive system is available stock. You can go with the early stock brackets and pullies or upgrade to a serpentine system. With the exception of the T400 it is a bolt in job.

You can use the stock BBC exhaust manifolds or go with headers.

The T400 is longer than your T350 and will require moving the rear trans mount point back. If you have the bolt in cross member it should be easy. The drive shaft will need to be shortened for the 400; if I recall about 1.5” and the front yolk is larger than the one for the T350.

You will need to think about the radiator also.

I have done this and it’s not that bad of a job.

My first conversion was at age 19 with a 454 into a 70 Camaro. I have only assisted with a Corvette install.

And wider. You may have to bump out the passenger's side tranny hump.

Front spring rates and sway bar are different for the big block cars. You might want to consider running the stock rear big block/FE7 sway bar outfit.

I did a 427 in a 74 with a 4spd. Most of my parts, brackets, mounts, hoses, ect... came from Dr. Rebuild

I got the motor complete, so it has all the brackets from the 73 Vette. The T-400 was just bought new from Summit with a 3000 stall.
What about the mounts.... What year do I use?

....with the motor out of the car, hire a welder to reinforce and strengthen the frame...

You're probably going to destroy your aluminum rear end if you put big block power into an 80.

I think you should probably beef up from the new tranny back also. That thing should be awsome in the end.

The T-400 you need should have the short tail shaft housing to make it all work! I did the same install on my 81 Vette that I sold this past Oct.
