Default Fiberglass Rear spring failure MFG?

I bought a 75 vert.a few years ago with a fiberglass rear spring. I was changing oil today and I was checking the U-joints and found the rear spring split open on one side about half way through. The numbers on the spring are 602-101-10-105 serial #033790. I see no mfg information but it could be on the top. If you have a spring near this number it could fail. This spring looks new and had heat shields in place above it. Would anyone know who made it? I will post pic. soon.

IIRC if it is wider at the tips than the center it was made by Muskeagan brake,

Now I can't remember who makes the other style...

Sounds to me like a TRW.... I have a spring with numbers like those, but I am not sure if they are the same or not. I do know that my spring is a 340 and that it came with a heat shield.

It is wider at the tips with metal on the ends and two small bolts.

I was going to get a bunch of stuff including the spring from VB&P. Are you telling me that they actually break? What causes this?

That is a TRW 340# spring. I have the same unit on my car. No issues in over 10 years use.

BTW, the part number is actually 602-103. They put a sticker on the spring that says 602-101-103-105 and then punch a hole at the number that corresponds to whichever rate that spring is.

101 = 315#
103 = 340#
105 = 355#

And I believe that TRW was the original manufacture for the spring when it came out on the 80 or 81 I don't remember which year.

I have a VBP spring on mine and no problems so far. It's been on the vette for at least 6-7 years.

How did you get your car to sit down with this spring? I already have 8" bolts and it's WAY too high. The car isn't done yet, but there won't be enough weight or settling to take care of the height I am dealing with. It looks like a 4x4 in the back

I used C4 bolts. They are about 9-1/2 inches long. Down side is that the spring end is lower than the rim so if I have blow out, it could get ugly. Of course, I have been running them for 10+ years, so....

Not as low as some but I like it.

That was on a 80 I was working on for a friend. The 75 with the broken spring had it when I bought it so I didn't know who made made the spring or if they would replace it. I don't know when it broke but I have put about 1000 miles on it.

exhaust too close to the spring can do it, just put some header wrap on the spring, or the exhaust for a foot or so on each side of where the exhaust runs. If you put it on the exhaust, remember to seal it so moister doesn't get trapped and cause it to rust out.

If they do break, VB&P would do right by you, they stand by their stuff
