Carter Quadrajet?

Carter Quadrajet?
I was looking at a '69 vert with the idea of buying it and while checking the numbers on the car the carb seemed a bit interesting.
The markings on the carb said Carter Quadrajet and the part number is 7029292 which is for a 350/300 automatic but the car is suppose to be a 350/350 4 spd original number matching.
I thought Quadrajet was Rochester. Anyone have any idea of the vintage for this carb. Did Carter buy Rochester at some point?

Ex. A9 = Jan 69
F9 = June 69
I dont think they used the letter I for Sept as it looked too much like a 1 or Sept would be J. My Dec built has a M

[QUOTE=72ragtop;1567649350]Carter built carbs for Rochester. [QUOTE]
Yes evidently Rochester could not build enough Q-Js since GM was putting the Q-J on most V8s w/ 4 barrel carb. Carter had been supplying GM w/ Carter carbs for years.
This sort of thing is not uncommon.

GM contracted with Carter to supply Q-jets for two reasons...as a supplemental suppler to meet demand and as a hedge against a strike by Rochester since they were a division of GM. Carter, as a non-GM company, wouldn't be affected by any possible strike by Rochester workers and supplies of carburetors would be less interrupted.

There is a sight that will tell you what number carb should be with your year and who's. Someone should chime in on this. I have them printed out and stuck somewhere where they would be easy to find when needed. Lost of luck in me finding them. Sorry.
