Default Cloning...on a budget....

Well...not ALOT of progress, but starting to dig into the 68 stroker road race themed car.
Now.....for the custom exhaust work that I have to build, the roll bar fab work, then to tweek the flares,so they don't look like MY car!
This is a pretty radical solid lifter 496 stroker w/custom tweeked 65 396/425 horse vette heads,and getting a Team G w/the drop base,and L88 hood.The TKO is the 600 RR,and 3.36s in the assend.VB&P front/rear mono setup.Should be a pretty exciting little driver.
This is a one man shop, and I have been blessed w/some insurance work,so don't look for daily progress on this old girl.

This was the car when I bought it,and drug her home....

and...the frame mods....

here's how she was today.....

it's nice to be in a warm shop...here's Illinois today....

Fronts are 17x9.5s with 275/40s and 4.5" backspace.
Rears are 17x11s with 315/35s and 4.5" backspace

The wheels are from Team III
A great company to deal with based on this expierence.

Be carefull with the 4.5" backspace especially in the front. Some guys have said they rubbed the frame. To be safe you may want to go with 3.75" - 4" like others have.

That's what I thought. Mine came in last week. I should get them on the car next week. 17X8 4" bs front and 17X9 5" bs rear. They are going on the 65 in my Avatar. I don't care for the supplied center caps. I think I will leave them off. I can't wait!

You build beautiful cars with lots of great detail. How about you fab us up some short, flat aluminum caps?

Sky65...those are going to look awesome on your 65!
3Jsvette(Jack) is the owner of this 68 now,and I am the one putting it together for him. It's Jack's call ultimately on the directions this car goes, but we think alot alike, and we both AGREE the center caps suck!
Here's the wheel/tire combo on another vette I threw on there just for a visual alittle while back.....

The tire/wheel combo should really set this car off in the end,and give it the look of the L88 cars from yesteryear. The theme of this build....is YES, with a budget in mind, but to make this car look very period correct, and functional w/ a emphasis on alot of fabrication work that isn't store bought.

I agree. They look great! It is a nice blend of new, 17", and old road race, Minilite look. I'm got a VBP dual mount leaf spring set up for the 65 as well. Looks like I will have a C2 version of the 68. Keep the pics coming.

"I got em on!"

............and they look great! You did a nice job of filling the wheel wells with the tire/wheel sizes and the backspace. Enjoy!

Thanks guys.
I really like the wheels and the tire fitment. They change the whole look of the car. To me the car now has just a little taste of pro-street but not over the top. The car rides and handles better too!

Alittle progress on Jack's 68.Got the body dropped by myself the other day,and started on the flares.Fun...fun...fun.ACI is a great company, and makes nice parts,but....these flares are pretty crude for a nice street cloned road race car,and need alot of massaging to get right. It's all in a days work.....
Alot ahead.....getting the flares roughed in,and starting the roll bar configuration, and the home made exhaust. This is my buddies car,and although he isn't "cheap" by any stretch....we wanted to do alot of fab work on the car like the exhaust, etc.,so it had the feel of a real race car from the 60s.
Now......all I have to do is make the vision real, and GOOD for the owner.

Sky, I love your license plate.

My first Corvette, bought in 1977, was a black '65 roadster with a stinger hood, rear flares and holes cut for 3rd tail lights. This brings me back.

Are the brakes from VB&P as well? If so, what are they? love the cross drilled slotted rotors.

It will be done, but that will be up to the owner.Carlisle's is kinda intimidating...I'm just a old hillbilly that likes Corvettes, and a step up from dirt floors,or as one vendor noted the other day....I'm not a real company....I work out of a garage.
It will be there.bells on.....
