HERESY! Burn him!!
I know, I know. But I wonder what that would run like. The turbo mill in the Cobalt SS has some pretty decent numbers, better HP/TQ than stock on the later C3 years. And it would save a lot of weight. I think the whole thing weighs 350 lbs, that's a couple hundred pounds off the front end.
Set aside that it's not a V-8 for a minute. I'm not even considering actually doing it. But... Think it could work?

But seriously, I have seen a C3 with a Buick V-6 turbo in it. But I would never put a 4 cyl in a Corvette.

I have a Sky Red Line with the GMPP tune and some other mods. The LNF is a pretty hot engine, but not really right for a Corvette. It's still a four cylinder, after all.

Aside from the absolute and total "spiritual" wrongness of a four cylinder in a Corvette, what's wrong? The Ecotec Vette would be faster and lighter than stock. And get twice the MPG no doubt.

If you want a faster, better handeling Corvette, buy a C4, there only about 7k, someplaces. Some of us LOVE our loud, smoke belching V8'S, even if they only make 190hp. It's more then just about the numbers.

Ecotec is the GM 4 cylider they offer in the cobalts, skys, solstices etc. I personally would never do it, especially when throwing in an LS motor would be just as much work. The only way I could see it being acceptable was to make it a built turbo motor putting out 400-500hp. They are a very strong motor and could do it. 6 bolt mains can take some power. And just because you loose some weight isnt neccessarily goin to make it handle better. Weight distribution and spring rates were designed with a big V8 sitting in there.

Yep.it would be a cool little project.Thats if you want to spend,oh say 15K and countless hours of acquiring, engineering, fabricating and tuning this wonder of so called technology. Its all impressive until someone who dropped in his $2995.00 crate stroker in a day in and half drinking beer with his buddies just smokes your "eco" techno-wonder at the dragstrip or the stoplight...

What about a Hybrid (flame suit on) ?
If a very-small displacement V8 / hybrid conversion was available, would this be acceptable ? Assume the performance was "adequate", whatever that means to you.
At some point, a modern-technology powertrain HAS to make sense in a Corvette. Maybe not is a C3 conversion, but maybe as the C7? C8?
