Default remove door panels to paint car?

Getting serious about painting my '71 finally. I need to take off the passenger panel to fix the window. Should I just leave it off/ need to be off to do a proper paint job on the inside doors? Thanks.

You need to mask about everything off in the interior. Otherwise, everything will be covered with paint overspray dust when you get it back.

If this is just a standard respray and not a full resto.

Remove the:
Doors
Hood
Bumpers
Gills
Mirrors
Headlight assemblies
T-tops
chrome T-top trim
Windshield and rear window trim
and mask off the interior completely.

My buddy like to take the interior out too, but I was replacing everything anyway.

Just don't do like Bubba did on mine when it was repainted. He sprayed EVERYTHING on the inside.!

These are great examples of eastltd door pics and the CORRECT way to paint it. Either mask or remove the hardware before painting.

If I was changing the color of the car, I can't picture in my head how I would paint it without removing the door panels. Even if I was repainting the original color, I would want to take the lock cylinders out before painting, and the easiest way to do that is to take the door panels off.

That answers my question and more- was starting to wonder about the headlights-thanks all. Probably try to get the lock cylinders out too- it's going from white to red.

If you are changing colors you need to remove items like lock cylinders, door handles, headlights, etc. Nothing worse than that missed spot where a different color shows up.

I was thinking you were the OP and I wasnt getting those codes for a '71! If the car is an '81 and you mean code 84, absolutely go back to original. It would look much better w/the interior and it would be worth more.
