Default Protective tape/adhesive for fresh paint

I see a Protective tape/adhesive to protect new cars while they are being transported for delivery. Is this available anywhere... or a similiar product? I just want to protect my fresh paint while I am assembling it. Thanks

Possibly it's the stuff 3M manufacturers?

We call it Automask at our shop. The package says Auto Transit Mask. It feels like a thin piece of PVC film that may not have very much (if any) adhesive. I think it comes in rolls that are 39" wide x 500' long. We purchase it from our local sign supply source (Montroy Supply). If you are located in the southwest part of the US, there should be a Montroy near you somewhere.

I'm sure it is available from other sources as well. I see a lot of boats with the same stuff as well.

I used 3M "Blue" masking tape from Home Depot for my assy protection. Sometimes I used multi-layers, left it on for weeks and it did a great job.

For the "average guy/gal", that's the most readily available option. Go 'blue'.....

Be careful with what ever you use on 'fresh' paint.

Eastwood carries the protective film you are looking for.

I checked with 3M on their tapes and they initially discussed their permanent mask that protects paint. But after I advised I was looking for a temporary protection, they noted their other division Poly Mask .

'PolyMask' by 3M – 800-241-2031 sells $500 min order however offers samples. They have 2 items that seemed to fit my needs: 24S56W for Hoods and top panels…. 64S58W for the sides of the car. They noted that testing would need to be done as it can peel paint or leave impressions… kinda not what I want to do. (testing period).

So – indeed back to being careful, some soft blankets and blue tape…

I also checked Eastwood...and they do have this tape that is supposed to be able to stay on the car for up to 6 months and specifically is made to prevent damage during final assembly of car components Item 51659 Final Assembly Chafe Tape $23.00 It is called Surface Armor and can be left in the sunlight while on the car. I called the mfg and advised them I painted my car Saturday and they were ok with the curing time. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT This souonds like the stuff I need

Montroy has 'Paint Mask'...... http://www.montroy.com/catalog/main/..._no=GM40002412 and they suggest damage to paint if it is not fully cured as well. It is expensive as well...
