Fiberglass Dash??
Has anyone made a fiberglass dash that looked like the factory dash, both upper, lower driver, and lower passenger?
I had the original re-dyed and they look great but the dye just flakes off. So, I was thinking that a painted fiberglass dash would look pretty cool.

i'm ripping it all out and going back to stock
you would be better off just finding a good shop to recover your dash in a leather or suede

i doubt it..you might have to staple some matte to the dash and resin that. it would be messy and alot of work to make it look good. if you want to have it look painted, just re-cover it in a vynle and use a flex paint to coat over it

How durable is the flex coat paint?
If I were to paint it would I really need to recover it? Could I not use the originals after I pealed all the dye off?

i'm sure you could use a high buildup primer... but might have to sand the stock dash a bit to get the primer to adhere better. i would also think the primer would need a flex in it too so it doesnt crack.
if it was me, i would just recover it with a nice dark fabric.

Hi JP,
I'm wondering about why your dye job is flaking-off. I'd think if the surfaces were properly prepared and dye, not paint, was applied you wouldn't be having such a problem.
People often report success dyeing the interior vinyl soft trim.
Regards,
Alan

So am I... I took it to a reputable upholstery shop. It looks great but anything rubs it (sharp or not) it just peels off. It feels like a really thin rubber. It only peels off the soft pieces. The harder plastic one it will scratch off but you really have work at it (tried it on the back of several pieces).

curious if they just sprayed that vynle color paint on it. you said it's like rubber and i know that the spray stuff will do that
