I had the privilege of driving 5 of these from the parking area, across the auction block and back to the parking area. The one listed last was my favorite of all the L-88's. Absolutely gorgeous car.

Also got to drive a 67 Nickey clone Camaro with tri power big block, 68 Z-28, 67 Fairlane 427, Mopar muscle machines and a drop dead gorgeous Hurst Olds 442.

The big seller of the day was one of the 4 original Shelby Cobra coupes that sold for 7.25 mil. Bob Bondurant sold it for 10K way back when. He commented he should have held onto it longer!

The steal of the day was the 70's era Camaro drag car that sold for 10,000. Someone got a real deal on that one.

Vin Diesel's Charger from the Fast & Furious was a no sale and it didn't lift the front tires 3' off the ground. Sounded good.

It was a long but fun day getting to drive and be around some very awesome cars and trucks.

If I could have had my choice of cars to take home it would have been the 57 fuel injected Pontiac Bonneville convertible, what an absolutely magnificent car. Was a no sale during the auction but sold afterwards for 150K

Unfortunately we were literally running to get all the cars through before sunset so no time for photos. We would stage the cars in numerical order, drive them through, park them, stage another and drive another through.

My wife got photos of only 2 or 3 C-3's, some of the other iron I drove through and of course the 57 Pontiac!

The Mecum website has the catalog on-line with photos of all the cars and trucks.

The L-88's are awesome and the last one to go through (lot# 208) with the sidepipes was a dream.

There was even a MuddyWaters and JoAnne sighting at the auction!

Yep, there were some very, very fine cars there! Dang it Tom...I would never have thought that any of the L89's would have went so cheap ! 65K for the Red roadster...I'd have been a happy camper to drive away with that baby for that price!! Needless to say, the LT-1 would have lost her spot!!

BTW: Tom looked like he was in 7th heaven!! Muddy

Hey Steve...were you over this way??

That was my car, you're killing me. I couldn't be there. It was such a buyer's market but I still thought my car would bring more than 150, especially since they bid 246 for that other coupe on the block and I heard higher outside.

There are a lot of old threads about my car, engine and suspension rebuild under my old handle "BAD-L88" if you are interested.

Don,

Do you remember the 70's era Camaro drag racer that was sitting just inside the tent as you entered, it sold for a whopping 10,000! The heads on the engine were worth that!
