I'm thinking about going with flat black on my 74, but wanted to see if there were any others out there. Also would go with 17 or 18 inch Coys Gunmetal C5s. Please post pics of your flat black vette if you have any!!!

I would question using flat-black paint on the exterior surfaces of a car. Satin-black, semi-flat black or semi-gloss black, maybe...but flat-black would be very dull looking, difficult to get clean/dry and show every rub mark or scuff very clearly.

Panic's flat-black looks great ... I'm just not sure if it will look as good on a double-chrome C3. I am really loving this paint job on other cars (mostly on newer vehicles), but am not convinced it would fit on a 72 or older Vette. Anyone have pics of Flat-black being used on a double a 73 or older?

I believe the whole rat rod trend made flat black what it is, it does have a mean nasty look,
Many top end cars at more and more cruises are showing up with spray bomb wet sanded flat paint jobs...mostly black,

I plan to run my Mako project flat black for a while,
I didn't plan to use paint but rather black primer, wet sanded it's just slick and while the color isn't really inky black it does look good to me,
It looked like the 68 Daytona posted.

I ran my 66 that way before it was a trend...the purists hated it...

I much prefer satin over flat. Gives it more depth and less primer look.

I would have thought that too...after showing my wet sanded black primer custom 66 to 1000's of people not once did any one say "primer" all asked how I got "paint" to look that way....

If this car looks like primer then so did my 66, all in the eye...



In my case I never planned to leave the 66 or my next mako project in the black primer I just run it while I think up what color I desire to paint the car.

Thanks for the info! Quils corvette is pretty much my exact setup. My sidepipes are black though. I'm gunna go with the same rims and tires, but not too sure on satin or flat black. The thing I liked about it being in black primer was that if I change my mind I can always paint it a gloss color. One more question for all of you...my car came through with a luggage rack, should I or shouldn't I put it back on? Opinions please. Do you think flat black with flat black sidepipes is too much?

I think flat black sidepipes is bad-f'n-***! i can absolutlely say this is my favorite thread of all time. if you do go with the flat black pipes and paint, throw some pics up.

...So you want more opinions. Here goes.

Satin black not flat black because it will look better. If you decide on a gloss color later on you still have to take the whole car apart and start the paint process all over anyway.

Loose the luggage rack it's big and it's bright and do think it compliments the overall theme of the car you're trying to create?

I think you can use your flat black side pipes if you put a rocker molding behind them so they don't get lost. I would wait till you get the wheels and try to match the finish of the wheel lips with the rocker moldings. You may want to take a Scotch Brite pad to the rocker moldings to tone them down a bit but that's a wait and see.

That's my .02 for what ever that's worth.
