Default Order of installation? Windshield, SS trim, weatherstrip??

About ready to finish up the windshield moldings, weatherstrip, and install new windshield.

Right now I have a bare w/s frame and no side or top reveal moldings installed. Should I have the w/s installed first, then install the side moldings, then the weatherstripping??

I realize the small clips across the top for the top trim piece need to be installed, as well as the large chrome corner pieces on the upper corners, before the w/s goes in.

Thanks!!

Rob

Hi Rob,
The order I used was...
1. Trim clips.
2. Windshield header corner trim, chrome.
3. Windshield.
4. Large windshield header trim, ss.
5. Small windshield header trim, ss.
6. A-pillar stainless trim, ss.
7. A-pillar weather strip retainer, ss.
8. Weather strip.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

PS... the header corner trim front screws MUST go in before the windshield is set.

Alan,

Thanks for the order and the pix!! As for the "large header trim" do you mean the big "T" piece that covers the top of the frame and the T-top area?

Also,

#'s 6 and 7 use the same screws, correct?? Meaning they attach pretty much at the same time. One set of holes, one set of screws??

AND.....the installation of the windshield trim, and T-Top SS and chrome trim pieces, has NOTHING to do with any of the "plastic" interior finish pieces?? Reason is, I have to have the glass guys order a windshield, so in the meantime, I should be able to complete the "interior" (dog legs, halo panels, A-pillar interior trim, windshield header interior trim, rear window trim, etc)????

Thanks!

Rob

Rob,
When I set my windsheild I had all the trim (sides and top) on hand and fairly clean. I used them to make sure the windsheild was set at the right depth. I have seen a few where the windsheild was set too low or too high and the trim did not fit right.

Just something to think about.

Good luck, Wilson

On the subject of too high and too low, what is the correct distance for the gap between windscreen and ss side moulding down the sides of the windscreen??

Hi Rob,
I wouldn't put the interior soft trim in until all the SS trim is in place.

Alan

Hi wev,
The 71 AIM indicates that the bead on the SS trim touches the windshield glass on the top and both sides.

Hi Alan,

Thanks, I'm just dry fitting all the soft trim. I have the rear all done (around the rear window and halo)

Been working with wiring under the dash and console (A/C, power windows, stereo amp) trying to make it all organized and tidy things up.

Also reinstalled my T/T steering column with a new GM rag joint.

Adjusted my neutral safety switch as I now have 2004R trans, so the P and N positions were a little off (for starting) as was R (for back up lights)

I have a ton of photos just no time to upload and post them!!!

Thanks Alan, its hard to make out in my AIM and i am getting close to a dry fit.

In the AIM is there a way (or have i missed the text) that tells you what the screw sizes are?

E.g. im looking for the corner moulding screws (the chrome peice at the top of the windscreen pillar post/roof) , my manual shows the screws and a code 11503446 and the rear screws are shown as 11503277, now without scanning through the manual looking for a known size to relate back to, is there a way of finding out the screw spec, diameter and length?

Thanks for the responce and your pics look great

And sorry to hijack your thread Rob

Hi wev,
I checked and Dr. Rebuild has the screws for the chrome windshield header corner trim. His catalogue is a great help for all sorts of small parts that the other vendors don't carry.

Alan

That link won't work now.

Rob I'm so glad you're going through this..........right before I do...

Just curious Alan, does your chrome halo pieces have seam sealer between the chrome and the fiberglass body . Not under but next too. Pardon lack of artistic skills.

Hi BB,
Originally my car had the seal sealer under AND next to the halo trim.
It doesn't have it now( the car doesn't get wet), the next owner will deal with it.

Hi HD,
Interesting!!!
Here's my 71 picture that corresponds to your picture. I found the most sealer under and behind the halo chrome trim pieces.

Alan

Another question on trims, and weatherstrip, at the rear of the door glass there is a 'L' shaped weatherstrip, my AIM shows it fitting into a half channel peice of trim which is riveted to the halo, Buba has beaten me too it and the channel is missing, the weatherstrip was glued directly to the fiberglass.

Question, i havent seen these on any of the vendors sites so i presume you can not purchase them, dows anyone have pics and dimensions of these peice so i can fab one, or do i just glue the weatherstrip back on?

TIA
