How do I do it? Surely I'm doing something wrong here?

I simply cannot get the the third bolt inthe corner. Cannot get my hand inthere, cannot get a socket in there. Just can't get my mind around it.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Got the same problem and just gave up for awhile! I will try my 1/4 in. air ratchet next!

What I did in the 72 vert, I drill a hole big enough for a socket from the rear but the spare tier & gas tank are out, I will close it with plastic plug.

Do you mean the one in the corner at the top? I was able to get it out using a combination of a regular box wrench & ratcheting box wrenches. Even after getting all three bolts out I still couldn't remove the hinge assembly Ended up painting it while in the car.

The only way to get that bolt out is to first remove the spring, with the spring removed you can get a 1/4" drive thin walled deep socket with a short extension and remove the screw. it's not easy and patience is required. I removed and reinstalled them in my 68 using this method. Bob

My spring is removed and will buy a thin walled deep 1/4 socket to try that. Thanks for helping me too!

Do they have to come out? My advice is to leave them in.

I wanted to take it out and sandblast it all prior to paint - make it look new again.

That is the only way to do it. The spring can be tough too but after you get it out, the bolt will be easy to access.
