I like green cars, and I cannot lie...
So, here I am starting my 3rd week of ownership of my '81 vette. I am still working through some buggy stuff, but I gotta admit that I just love the car. It feels like "me" when I drive it around. The previous owner gave me all the paper work he had from the other previous owners and there are a bunch of work receipts.
This car has a nice lopey idle, and a little bit of umph when you hit the gas. Nothing earth-shattering, but faster than my 231 hp Jag. So, I was wondering if someone put a cam in it. I noticed that the exhaust manifolds looked like stock, but didn't have the holes in it for the AIR system. Turns out that some guy welded them up and did such a good job I don't even see the weld marks. Anyway, this same guy put in a cam and timing set, plus new harmonic balancer. I thought, cool, I wonder what cam he put it. Looking through more papers, I found the parts receipt with the part number and looked it up online. It turned out to be a stock L48 camshaft. What the heck? Why go through all that work to put the stock cam back into it? I have to decide what upgrades I am going to do, and how much power is enough. It already has an older carb and distributor on it, so the electronic stuff is gone.
Anyway, the latest mystery is when I got in the car yesterday morning. It has been raining non-stop here for about a week. I hadn't noticed any problems with leaks. But, that morning, the driver side carpet under the mats was soaked, and there was a puddle of water on the storage cover. Nowhere else was wet. We actually have some sun today, so I am going to try to get everything dried out.
Here's some pics! Nope, not the original color for the vette. According to paint codes, it was originally beige.

Hi DV,
NICE!
WET!!
When you drive down the street in your Jag most everyone thinks it's a Corolla.
When you drive down the street in your Corvette….EVERYONE knows what it is!
Good Luck with it!

Alan

I noticed the license plate on your Jag - do you shoot fastdraw?

Nope, this is not my first vette. A long time ago when I was just a youngster, I picked up a used red '80 and had a lot of fun with it. At the time, I was the service writer at a Pontiac/GMC/Cadillac dealership. One night, some of the techs and I stayed after work and threw an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Performer cam in the engine. Did a little work on the carb and timing, and it turned out awesome. Then life got in the way and I got rid of it.
Next up, when I got married (about 17 years ago), I bought a red '88 convertible that turned out the be a huge money pit. That's when I joined the forum for tech advice, etc. I eventually unloaded it, I mean sold it, to some guy out of state. Yes, I told him everything that was done and still needed done. I'm not jerk!
So, this is my third, and it's green. So far, I am able to manage the stuff it needs, with some help.
As for the Jag's license plate, I don't do fast-draw with any organization. I just like single-action revolvers, and I am a big fan of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

Cool - I do CFDA fast-draw (with a New Vaquero), but haven't shot much this past year. Fast-draw really seems to have made a resurgence in the last 5-10 years...
