Default Help removing turn signal lever

I have a '78 vette and the turn signal lever with cruise spins around.
I have downloaded every schematic and read all the threads but for the life of me I cant get the lever out of the Headlight pivot. Everywhere it says just to pull it out but it wont come. I have even had the vise-grips on it and I am afraid it will break. Am I missing something?

If it's a tilt tele then it pulls out of the plastic housing. It has a bit of a key at the end where it inserts into the dimmer pivot. It may be necessary to rotate the lever shaft just a bit. That's a multi piece switch/lever and if the lever is spinning it's possible that the main shaft of the lever is rotating on the end of the shaft that is inserted into the main. I'm assuming that if you've gone to the vise grips the lever is basically in trouble. Vise gripping the shaft as close to the housing and very tightly may afford you the ability to rotate the shaft and extract. Try not to break the dimmer pivot. That's the part that the lever inserts into. Give that a try and let me know.
