Last weekend I received a 2nd place trophy for original C3 at the 24th annual Sunshine Corvette Club spring meet. There were 110 cars entered in total. These things are beauty contests and my car ain't no one footer. Nobody even looked underneath, so I thought maybe somebody here would like to...I know how much you all like photos.

Very nice and clean. That is the first time I have ever noticed the headlight actuators have colored dots on them for the hose color. Did you do the work?

clean but not correct I see you're wanting ncrs standards so let me share what needs changed.
1. way too much orange overspray on exhaust manifolds, I don't even see anything but orange!
2. a-arms etc are way too glossy black, use krylon 1613 on those to correct them along with other frame parts you have in gloss black.
3. remove all those zip ties, there should be hangers to keep those hoses up and away.
4. your hose kit is too large in diameter, did you order from paragon? Dr. rebuilds is the only one that has the correct diametere repros.
5. bell housing should be orange overspray
nice work, don't take the above as bashing just saying as a judge what is incorrect.

A-frames were painted with a 2-stage urethane by Dave Walters, who used to be the senior judge at Cypress Gardens. I agree, they are glossy but that is the way they are going to stay.
The zip ties were used only for initial routing. I have the original tie wraps, just didn't want to wear them out trying to fit the hoses and wiring. They have since been replaced.
The hose kit was from Dr. Rebuild about 4 years ago.
My original bell housing was painted even less than it is now, including some major drips.
I'm amazed you didn't point out the zerk in the clutch cross shaft! It is supposed to have a red (or orange?) plastic plug installed.
I don't plan to ever have the car judged, just paving the way for the next caretaker with a bigger pocketbook than me.

Could very well be, but I tried all the positions and that is the only position that fit without interference. It is tack-welded open...the original was rusted closed. I guess a little more research and effort is in order.

Hi FR,
Your pictures made my day!!!! NICE!!!!
Regards,
Alan
My observations have been that the control arms were a bit shinier than the frame. How much?? I believe they were dip painted originally; does that affect the degree of gloss? I like the shine on yours.

Evidently not. Checked the NCRS TDB archives and this subject has been discussed several times. The consensus seems to be that the weight FACED to the rear on the SB and FACED to the front on the BB. The AIM vaguely shows the SB configuration. The '68-'69 TIM and JG states that "The valve counterbalance weight POINTS toward the right side of the engine block on those cars with a 427 engine, but is PARALLEL to the crankshaft on 327 or 350 engines." I feel better already.

Don't imagine...but pictures tend to lie. I've still got a lot of work to do in the REAR END, but if I spend any more money on this thing, anytime soon, my wife might be spankin' mine!
