I personally think the torque thrust or Minilite style wheels look the best on C3s.
I am not a fan of big flashy aftermarket wheels, I would have stayed with stock 15in alloys, but there is no street tire that grips well in that size.
What is the back spacing on the wheels? The car has a simple and clean elegance to it, very very nice look.

I totally agree... This is what makes to me a superb look, it is the entire package...

As I understand stock wheel sizes for the generic C3 Corvette:
15' wheel, 8"rim, with 4" backspace.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

From reading this thread it seems that wheels with backspacing range from 4" to 4.5" will work fine....I'm assuming an 8" rim and 17" or 18" wheels.

Also, it seems that there are very few aftermarket wheels that are available with the 4" backspacing. Is that about correct?

i think theres actually quite a few. You either need to contact the manufacturer or look at the vendors sites. I had a catalog from a c3 vendor that had a big selection

Thank-you for the complement, and sorry for the late response.
The wheels have 4inch backspacing (-11mm offset) on both front and rear. Thats the stock/OEM backspacing

#VN5156861 front 16x8
#VN5157861 rear 17x8

Looks like I need to make a couple changes to get more traction. I am going to put 18x9.5-10 inch wheels on the back with some sticky 295/45 tires, and then move the 17x8s to the front. I wish I could get a quick launch from a stop, but I have to ease it up to speed to avoid spinning in place. I have 400 RWHP to plant, with weight reductions getting the car under 3k pounds. Ill post some pictures when im done.

What tires and size are you currently running? I have 16x8's all around and I am considering running the 17 on the rear as you have.

Dave

You can find tire weights pretty easily on most tire manufacturer sites, and they seem to be pretty accurate in my experiences; but not a lot of wheel manufacturers provide weights, and they are sometimes inaccurate. For those that are concerned about adding/reducing weight with a tire/wheel combo, I have a few acurate weights to share that I have gathered all through my personal scale (all weights are with caps included);

American Racing Torq Thrust II VN515 polished (fairly light alloy wheels and decent price)

16x7, 0 offset (4 inch Backspace) part #VN5156761 $120= 16 lbs
16x8, -11mm offset (4 inch Backspace) #VN5156861 $122= 16.5 lbs
17x8, -11mm offset (4 inch Backspace) #VN5157861 $156= 18.5 lbs
18x9, 0 offset (5 inch Backspace) part #VN5158961 $180= 20.8 lbs

Ridler 695 alloy, gloss medium gray with machined (polished looking lip)

17x8, 0 offset (4.5 inch Backspace) part #695-7861G $124= 20.0 lbs
18x9.5, +6mm offset (5.5 inch Backspace) #695-8961G $133= 23.8 lbs

And if you want the stock wheel weight to compare;
15x8 OEM rally wheel= 25 lbs
15x8 OEM alloy wheel= 19.2 lbs

Sorry again for the late reply, I don’t seem to be getting your messages until I look at the thread.

In that picture I had
245/50r16 on the front (25.6 inch tall)
255/50r17 on the rear (27.0 inch tall)

I just barely put 295/45 on 18x9, and switched the rears to the front (I wanted more traction, ground clearance and fill the wheel wells more).
I still need to do some suspension height adjustments, and take better pictures, but here are these for now with the 295/45r18 on rear, and 255/50r17 in front;

Here is a side shot of the car still with the 17s on back, and 16s on the front. It’s now a little over an inch taller and wider all around now with the 18/17 inch combo (27 inch tall front, 28.25 tall rear). The Nitto Invo 255/50r17s that were on the rear seemed to stick pretty well most of the time, and would do perfectly fine with a stock to mild build, but I have a 400 wheel hp LS swap with the T56 trans and 3.73 gears, so I really wanted some more traction.

That’s the exact wheel I have on the rear of my 68 now. With a 295/45r18 tire, I had to do a little work to keep the big tire from rubbing on the frame, but the parking brake cable cleared fine (about 1/4 in clearance);

Yup, stock is 4in backspace, and most wheels don’t have that Back space, but the 16x8 and 17x8 TT2 do (VN5156861 and VN5157861). A 4.5 inch backspace (0 offset on an 8 inch wide wheel) fits good too with no clearance issues, they just tuck into the fenders a half inch more.
