Hood release cable on 1980 c-3
Hood release cable handle is difficult to pull to release hood. After releasing hood, i must always push the handle back in, or i am unable to latch hood.
1. There must be some sort of "return spring" on the cable release handle that has grown weak?
2. Is there a way to lubricate the cable for easier operation?
Thanks!

Lube the underhood points and the cable. You'll see it on the cowl right in front of the driver's seat.

wd 40
WD-40 or equivelant-
1.spray to both hood latches (located on top of firewall, you can find these easliy. Look for the pivot points on the latches.
2. the cable actually ends inside the drivers side latch-look for it. At this point, spray some juice inside the cable shield, drink some coffee, come back and hit it again.
I used a rag around the area to keep the overspray at a minimum. Be sure to hit both latches.
3. Operate the cable seveal times with the hood up, close the hood and try it ,send me a thank you note.

Hi CS,
On my 71 there's a small coil spring on the latch on the firewall that the cable operates. It pulls the cable and interior handle back to the closed position.
Regards,
Alan
