Default Where do I find A/C Evap tube insulation?

Does anyone know where I can find the correct black putty type of insulation that wraps around the upper evaporator tube? It's the one with black electrical tape in the pic below. I now have it covered with a piece of foam rubber pipe insulation and black nylon ties.

One thing you might want to look at is called Cork Tape. Not a putty but in roll form. It can be found at wholesale A/C supply. They should have no problem selling it to you. mike...

I'm going to walk into my local Auto Zone store and ask for "Dum Dum". Then I'm going to see if they go and get the manager for me.....

Seriously, I want it to look factory original, so I'll check that out. I've seen the cork tape advertised on the net, but it's a flat tape unlike the original putty that was wrapped around the tube. I'll try that if I can't find the putty. Thanks.

Dr Rebuild has it as "evaporator putty seal". I believe most HVAC supply stores will also have it.

I'm sure an HVAC supply house like united Refirgeration or Johnstone Supply or Grainger would have it. The same product is used widely in HVAC equipment to seal gaps.

I believe the Doctor has it. He's supposed to get back to me on it. He made a good point that some other stuff will be a dirt magnet. Thanks.

Ask for "Four Seasons 59010" or "Everco A9535" or eqivalent.
It's all sticky just like the original stuff that GM bought. That's why it worked so well and last for so many years.
If worried about dirt spray it with ArmorAll or silicone after installation.

THIS is the stuff. Doctor Rebuild came through for me. It's GM P/N 301443 - Evaporator Core Putty. It's large enough to wrap around the tube. The Doc has it covered in plastic on both sides to protect it, but he said that GM just stacked them on top of each other with paper in between each one.

Interesting. I thought that the wrap was for the upper tube to the evaporator (so it wouldn't sweat?). But yours is on the bottom tube, wrapped around the sensor wire. Is this used on both the upper and lower evaporator tubes?

Ideally it should be on the expansion valve/orifice/capillary tube (bottom tube).
Gm wasn't very liberal with it depending on what vehicle.

Its purpose is to seal the HVAC ducts so engine fumes, etc. don't get into the cabin.
