Default Decode a 1970 Trim Tag

So I looked at it and tried searching the net for Production date code for what they mean but figured I'd ask here.

My Trim Tag reads A20
411 976

My VIN is 194370S401451

Now I have the GM Vintage Vehicle Documentation on the car and it states Jan 26th 1970 was the shipping date to Dealer - Golden Mile Chevrolet in Toronto Canada.

How does this correspond? Is code A20 - Jan 20th?

Hi Augustus,
Your shipping date sounds fine.
A-20 for your body build date is january 20th.
Also your vin number coincides with the build date time as well.
411 is for a blue vinyl interior.
967 is for Mulsanne Blue paint exterior.
From the info you gave here the colors should match and your dates are good.

Yours was built a few days before mine, which was built Tuesday, January 20th, 1970. 2011th built.

It jives. Your car had to be assembled before it could be shipped. On Tuesday, January 20th, it passed the station on the assembly line where the trim tag was attached. It would not have been a completed car at that point and probably needed another working day or day and a half to have been fully completed.

It was finished by the anticipated shipping date of Monday, January 26th.

Your car could have come off the line as early as Wednesday the 21. Almost certainly by Thursday the 22. At completion, it was driven out to the shipping yard. She possibly spent the weekend sitting outside in the yard.

Poor baby. It can get cold in St. Louis in January. She might have been snowed on.

You guys are great!! Thanks for the info guys.

I did a flip flop... The GM Vintage Docs state Mulsane Blue which I tracked as being code 976 and looking at the Trim Tag now I can see it being 979 "Bridgehampton Blue"
I triple checked to make sure my eyes weren't decieving me..

So the Tag reads

A20
411 979

So the GM Vintage Docs all add up and are correct. Only one thing that is off if the difference between 976 and 979.. 979 on the Tag and 976 on the docs

and the docs state Mulsane Blue
and the options which it has.
454 390HP
4SP Close ratio M21
Electric windows
3.08 Posi
Tilt/Telescopic

** One more thing I noticed on the Wiper door is a lighter shade of Blue like Mulsane Blue.. Now it's getting interesting... The car must have been painted somewhere along the 40Years that have passed into Bridgehampton Blue. This is the color now.

Ha Ha.. In Jan 1970 I bet it did get snowed on before it was shipped.

That's a nice pic!!!!

I wish I could blow it up.

See how attentative we were back in the 70's to make sure our beloved Vettes were only shipped on Sunny days! LOL

This Fact should increase the value of our cars by atleast 10% across the board. We need to communicate this widespread on the board!

Thanks for finding this rare Pic to re-establish the extra care Chevrolet mandated to ensure Corvettes were shipped dry and safe! LOL
