Default 1974 Stingray Help!

Hi Everyone,
Great site here and I have been browsing for some time now. I am looking at picking up my first Corvette. I am curious if someone can help me with one I have found. What do you think it is worth, what should I be aware of... etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1974 Red Stingray 350 4 Speed 98,537 miles White Top.

I will try to post some pictures.

Looks like a nice car. What's the seller asking?

What about options? Have you checked the numbers? Any original factory documentation with the car? Seats have been replaced.

Good reading here. Worth the price of a copy.

Good luck.

It's solid, never has been wrecked, fiberglass is in good shape. It looks good now, but there are a few minor cracks in the paint. It has new brakes and calipers all around the car.

looks like a nice car, but that can be deceiving. some basic things to look and ask for: open the door and try to look up the window pillar to see if you can detect any rust, if they will let you, remove the kick panels (phillips head screw driver only needed) and check for rust; look at the frame particularly around the front suspension where the welds are for signs of rust; ask for whatever documentation the owner has; check the vin against the number on the front passenger side pad of the engine to see if they match (it will give you a little bit of help regarding any claims of "originality"); check the clutch by pulling the brake up as far as it will go (it will also tell you about the condition of the e brake, lol) and put the car in first gear, give it a little bit of gas and let the clutch out (do this away from anything immediately in front of the car) the engine should stall, if it doesn't, the clutch is weak and probably won't even get you home; carefully run your hand over the insides of the fenders to feel for any irregular spots indicating that there was glass work done (accident repair usually); check the general fit and finish all the "creases" should be sharp, the hood should line up reasonably well and the hood corners should be sharp.

those are just a few of the things to get you started. since you didn't mention the asking price, if it is a reasonably high ticket item, you might want to engage an independent appraiser to give you a fair market on it. it will also be helpful when you go to insure it to value.

I know that it has been driven occassionally and garage kept for the last 10 years. Please give me an idea of what you think might be a fair price on it given the fact it is in nice condition.

I think it is a beautiful car... I would just liked to be armed with as much knowledge as possible. This car is not of my era, I am 23.

The seats are definitely not original, and the convertible top appears to be a bit worn, but it could be the blurry pictures that make it look like that. Does it have the original engine, and tranny?

Pending massive rust - offer him $6000 and see what he says...you can always go up in price but you can never go back down...

No one can give a reasonable guess without a lot more information. You haven't mentioned which engine option it has or shown any engine compartment or undercarriage pictures. Could be $3K, 13K or 23K depending.........

Yes. If she were mine and you offered me $6K, I'd ask you not to come back.

No....not really...I bought my '74 for under $5000
The seller may THINK it's a 25K car....but it's not.
