Texas YOM (year of manufacture) registration.
I've thought about getting YOM plates for a while, but have always thought maybe later. Well I decided to look for a decent set, and noticed the prices seemed kind of high. I looked into it, and it looks like the law is changing.
For those not familiar with YOM laws, they allow you to register your car with plates from the year your car was manufactured.
Texas allows you to do YOM registration as either 'classic' - no restrictions, everything like a normal car. Or 'antique' - only allowed limited driving, and many other restrictions.
But starting Jan 1 2011, they will only allow NEW YOM registrations to be 'antique'.
So, anyone in Texas that was considering YOM plates on a daily driver, you might want to make sure you have it done before the end of the year.
