Almost without respect to what you find if it runs well you not only did well but great. He should have sold that for $8-10K just based on looks alone. If tires and brakes are good you have an excellent base to work with. If it turns out you don't like the work you do to Vettes yourself you can easily flip it at a profit I'd bet. Good job. Be interesting to see how well the engine runs and if there are any hidden expenses like new exhaust system due, etc. Even so, if not major, you did very well. I am not sure I like the exhaust tips but that's just a style preference and easy to change.

I was wondering looking at the brilliance of that blue if the new paints and colors are better than what was available back in 1976? Some of these repainted cars are just stupendous in color. Of course, the guys painting them now weren't auto workers in St. Louis working for the union either and they get great care but the depth and sharpness seems so much better. Anyone know? I don't know the specific paints used today but probably two part types with clear coats, etc.

Thanks for all the well wishes!
I had my mechanic take a look at it and its mostly good news! Here's what it need mechanically:
All shocks
Upper and lower control arm bushings (both sides)
Headers and pipes to the muffler
Rear Links
If anyone has suggestions on these parts, I'd appreciate it. I dont plan on racing it, I want a nice smooth (as smooth as it can get) and quiet (ha!) ride for leisure use. For now anyway
As far as the paint goes, no idea what color. The car was painted two owners ago and she didnt remember. I'd like to know myself as there's some scratches i'd like to touch up.

Smooth and quiet? Maybe you should've gone with a Caddy haha. I did just sell an 81 Fleetwood Brougham coupe and if you think the L82 option is cool, how about a 4.1L Buick motor in a Caddy. That thing had Level Ride in it.

Hi folks. I'm new to the forum and i've been checking it out and theres plenty good info here. I'm also a new potential owner; i looked at a 1979 L82 daily driver that needs mostly cosmetic work. I didnt see any rust, engine idled well, some body and interior concerns, tranny shifts well, wheels are not stock and (as far as he knows) matching numbers. He's asking $6000, but i figured no more than $5000. What ya think?

this is my first time on a forum. I recently became a corvette owner. I wanted to see if i made a good investment. I bought a 79 l-82 with t-tops. White exterior beige interior. the paint is a 10 footer it shows that its is 34 years old but is still in good shape. no bubbling but is cracking supposedly its original to the car. The guy had the original engine professionally rebuilt only 20000 miles on it. Brand knew period correct exhaust system. factory hvac working. interior is in perfect original condition. an emblem was missing of a quarter panel. one t top has a crack in it and needs new rear wheel bearings. here is the kicker though i got it for 4500. was this a good investment? he also threw in the original carb and air cleaner still in perfect condition and a 79 corvette assembly book and service guide.
