Default Gas cap area filling up with water!

The gas cap area fills up with rain water under fuel door.
Then the water leaks in to the tank.
Anyone else have this problem, and what's the best way to fix it???
Thanks Kurt

No one should have this problem, there should be a drain attached to the filler neck.

This page shows both the filler neck seal, and the drain hose. Maybe your drain hose is just clogged up.

There should be a drain on the rubber boot around the gas cap. What year Vette do you have?

There is a drain spout on the boot with a hose to the ground.

It's also there if you overfill with gas.

Yes a drain hose , just run a coat hanger to see if it's plugged, the hose is about a foot long and it's clipped behind the spare tire. Ron

The hose will pop off the rubber boot if you fold it down. You can then remove it and clear the block. There is a plastic cable tie that keeps the hose in place I believe on the rear surround support as it passes down behind the spare that you will have to feed it back through.

try to clear the drain hose. there is definitely a drain to prevent that from happening.

Thanks Guy's this definetly helps out a lot.
I'll get a coat hanger and try to run it thru.
It's probably a leaf or some thing pluggin it up.
This has been on going since I got the car.
This will be the third time I have had to drain
the tank due to water in it. This time it made
it's way to the carb were it's gotten all clogged
up so I got a new carb. It could also be some from
the ethonal in the gas now too.
Thanks again, Kurt

Had that happen on my '68. Just blow the hose out if you can and you should be good to go. Didn't have to remove mine to clear it. Careful with the pressure of the air.

actually there is a clip along the back piece behind the tank that the drain hose is supposed to clip to so that it doesn't ride on the tire carrier. BTW do NOT use a coat hanger as you will probably tear the tube (i'm sure it is a bit old and little brittle). i would use compressed air to blow it out and clear it. if that doesn't work, i would try a thin gauge of wire to try to snake it out and have it bend and turn with the bend of the drain hose.

I also agree with all of these suggestions. It sounds like the drain is blocked and needs to be cleaned out.

Anyone interested in that hose, I have 7ft. of it GM part #3986028 from back in the day when I rebuilt my '71. I hang out in the C5 section now, but I come over here every once and a while. $10.00 should do it for S&H.
