Default My upcoming 82 corvette project

I wanted to share a project I have had for many years with you guys. I'm planning on finishing it when the 1990 project vette I am currently working on is done. I guess it originally can from Texas and ventured to to California. Originally a white/Camel car however I want to change it's color to White over silver two tone or Autumn red over Dark claret.

It is a rust free car with the exception of very minor surface rust and has the 305CFI motor and 700r4. I plan on doing some custom mods to it like a L-88 hood scoop that I am grafting to it's original hood, Steeroids, perhaps do some engine upgrades, stereo upgrades, possible newer wheel and tire change, no body changes are planned though such as aero body kit.

This will be a very slow progressing project and I plan on it for only to be a weekend car since the 1990 project will be my daily driver.

Your welcomed to add pictures of customized interior pics such as seats to this thread but please keep in mind this is a California car and as much as I like power I can't just put anything on it's engine that I want to. TPI converted C3 pics would be nice though.

I accidently deleted the pictures so here are new ones.

I don't like the wide gaps of a aftermarket L-88 hood so thought by grafting a scoop on my stock hood I would have the tight gaps it had and If I go with TPI on my engine maybe adapt a cold air set setup under the hood to draw from the base of the windshield. That and I just love the L-88 hood on C3's.

Autumn red over dark claret was an 81 colour. Since your 82 is not original anyway, I say pick the colour you want and don't worry about it. Looks like a cool project. I'll be following your progress.

Nice project. I really like the two tones and late C3s. My C3 now is an original 82 two tone blue. What are you going to use as far as emblems, wheels, and caps? 82s have specific fender emblems and center caps. I like that two tone red. What color are you going to do with the hardtop? Is there a soft top?

Correct. All factory 82's were 350 cross fire injection with 4 speed automatics. No other factory choices.

Lemme know if you need a red front bumper cover to match the rear! I posted this one in the F/S forum. Shipping from MI to CA may not make it worth the trip however.

That two tone burgangy Vette above belongs to Dave (damoroso), he is in Florida. We both recently upgraded to BB's. I have heard that CA, Vettes had some 305's cid. Not sure though. For the most part 82's did come with the 350 cid CFI engine.
Good luck with your project.

Two-tone claret is my favorite color combo. The factory style stripe kits are available in reproductions thru the normal suppliers

Sorry I meant 350CFI that was a typo. Well at least I think it still has the original motor in it. Has 130k miles so anything could have been changed. It does however have a 90 vette 700r4 in it though.

Jeffp1167 - that last picture in your original post is awesome. I'm usually not a big fan of custom vettes but that is a real looker for sure. Good luck with your projects.

I'm doing the same thing with an 82 ragtop conversion (also in primer) i picked up off of CList !!!!!!
I'm going the LS/4L60E route and am leaning toward the 2-tone red/claret combo too.
I'll keep watching.............

I've decided to buy a SRIII tube frame after my 90 project is done. I figure I can sell most of the original rolling chassis parts to help fund the new frame. Next week I am going to buy all the suspension from his 1990 vette which had Z51, J55, FX3 & a dana44 for 500.00. This will give me all the suspension parts to build a modern rolling frame for this 82 and get rid of a lot of headaches associated with it's 60's era suspension.

A LT1 and 4l60e is my preferred engine and trans combination though but A L-98 would also be considered since I really like the looks of a polished TPI system.

I've just never grown to like the way this 82 ever drove and handled. So that is one part of the project that will be completely updated and this way I can have the nice handling and driving of a C4 but have the better looks of a C3.

This one was done with all factory 74-75 convertible parts. I'm not a big fan of soft-tops but the car is setup to mount one I just never did it is all. The hard-top is date 71 I think & also a factory one. I bought the car many years ago and it is a rust free car originally from texas. It still runs and everything but was just kinda put on the back burner about 6 years ago when it was in a custody battle.

Yeah I really like two toned ones. This one was originally a white one with camel interior.

i've got it stored with my brother now but i'll dig up the sale pics.
Mine looks identical to yours in all primer except with a soft top (all GM 74 parts), i was lurking around for the conversion parts to do Fast81 as a ragtop down the road a few yrs and found this 82 (already done) for equal to the just the conversion parts co$t. The way i see it, i bought the parts already installed and got the car for free (plus adding another c3 to the stable)
