Default Is there a C3 kit like a Shelby Cobra kit?

Don't know why this thought popped into my head today.

I'm sure you've seen those Shelby Cobra kit cars. You can buy all the parts in a kit and built it from scratch. The cost varies, but I've seen some kits at ~$30,000.

Has anyone offered a kit to build a C3 Corvette from scratch?

I realize it wouldn't have any collector value, but it would be very cool to build and customize your Vette from scratch. And it could have modern components, e.g., ABS, R'nP steering, etc.

Whadda ya think?

Why not just buy a C3?

There are all kinds of aftermarket frames and kits to improve the performance or modify it.

Probably not. Wouldn't be much point considering you can buy a complete C3 for under $10k.

I know there are C1 and C2 kits though.

Very true, but you're then dealing with old components and you must decide what should be refurbed or discarded. And dealing with cleaning and dismantling all the bubba mistakes of previous owners.

I'm talking about building a new C3 from scratch. All components completely new. Zero previous miles.

Wondering if a new kit car would be required to conform to modern safety and emissions requirements?

Well just dismantle it and reuse the body. For the cost of a body kit you could probably find a C3 with good body but needing a lot of restoration. It would be worth more as a restomod than a kit, and also most likely there would be some parts worth selling as parts.

@Texas Stinger:

Good points. And now that I think more about it... the Cobra kits were needed because there weren't enough made years ago that could be restored, unlike Vettes.

But maybe one last point... the cool thing about the Cobra kits is that you can buy a complete kit, and you have one vendor to call if something doesn't fit or work. In restoring an old Vette you need to buy all the pieces individually and deal with multiple vendors, etc. I'm still wondering if there is a vendor out there who would be willing to sell complete kits.

C3s are big kit cars.

I Googled these three.

At one time, there was a 53 kit running a small V8. I'm not sure what became of those.

My '74 could be classified as a kit right now.
