Birdcage Pictures
Pulled the interior out of my '74 and I took these pictures of the birdcage at the body mounts behind the kick panels then put the camera at the body mount and shot a picture up. I am very pleased at the overall condition.
Any suggestions on preventative measures? Should I spray anything up there or just leave it go? It is kept in a garage and only driven about 1000 miles a year and only when there is no chance of rain.

Mine looked pretty much the same as yours. I removed the bolt and washer, wire wheeled the area as best I could, then painted with a zinc rich primer. If you're interested in show, maybe buy some of the primer similar to what was used by the factory to repaint?
Of course replace the bolt and washer with new....
How is the windshield frame, the lip which the windshield sits on? This is one area where problems begin.
If you don't have any water leaks or don't plan to let the car see rain you'll do OK.

There is a product called Rustmort you might want to take a look at.

Your mounts look great! Rustmort will keep them that way.
I am not a Rustmort salesman, I just played one on TV...

I have used Ospho

with good results. Soak the area good, let it seep in, and then remove any residue. Let it dry overnight, it will turn black and paint since Ospho only killed the rust.

I think your birdcage looks pretty good. I did not think about putting the camera in the area and taking a photo of the inside. Thats a great idea.

I bought an inspection camera from a dock freight tools company. It was $120 and I used it to look up the birdcage channel as well as down/up the cowl area behind the fresh air vent. Very handy.
My birdcage is about the same as yours.

Mine was easy. I had taken the body off so I had to remove it anyway. If you're concerned, I've seen threads on this forum where people have sprayed a the bolt from underneath, let it soak for a while. Less risk of breakage.
