do a search, there are several threads here describing the same problem.. jack it up high and get under there and find the cable and yank it.. some even go thru the side grill.

hood cable broke
The way to do it is to use a screw driver and go thru the port holes in the firewall from the windshield where the wipers are. That is one reason there was such an opening and ugly eye sore to see the complete wiper asembly uncovered. One on each corner of the wiper/firewall there is a small hole that you have to fish around for, some have small rubber stoppers or plugs in them but the purpose is to push them out and pop hood levers use long screw driver tool. Good luck.

glad this worked
Hey Donnie I got your email. I am glad this worked for you. A lot of us have covered the eyes sore windshield opening up with after market covers but in a sense we have covered this area and have left ourselves prone to not being able to get into hood compartment. If you decide to cover eye sore area with a cover I would say inspect hood cable once a year for frays in the line, also keep hood release levers lubed. The hardware for this entire kit including handle, release cable to firewall , hood cross cable, clevin pin, retaining clips, can all be purchased new for about $80.00 thru RIKS Corvette parts at 1-888-745-7838. Make sure you do replace what ever parts broke and find out what made cable break also. After a radiator install where my hood was removed I had to make minor adjustment to cable due to hood not opening as easy before. A can of wd40 is truly a life saver sometimes.

There is a thread with an emergency cable attached to the set screw of the hood opening mechanism........you can install one and leave it where it can be reached from underneath, just in case...
