True Duals with Cats
79, Automatic. Anyone running a true dual exhaust system with cats? Are you using an H pipe or X pipe? I would love pics and a little bit about components if you can spare a minute. Thanks!

76 converted to true duals
My 76 l48 stock four speed in January we ripped the old 2-1-2 out with the pellet cat also. replaced a cracked exhaust manifold on passenger side then all new 2 1/4" double walled pipe all the way back. Each side now goes into bullet wire grid irridium coated cat converters that are virtually no flow resistance into flowmaster 40's. No x pipe or cross pipe. Hung by j hangers. Built by the shop that does my work.
I'm very happy with it. Gained 750 rpm and 5-10 mph in top of each gear and power much more uniform in every gear. tight system with one slip joint in it to disassemble plus the matings to the exhaust manifold. No heat riser in my system and no A.I.R. pump appears to have ever been on it.

Hooker headers to true duals.
x or H?
Mufflers?
Trying to avoid a drone by using the x or H, does it work? Anybody run for any amount of time with both setups? No x or H and with a x or H?
Pics?

well the best reason to use a single cat is it functions like an H or X pipe,
i have no cats and use an H pipe on my 2.5 CC dual exhaust

I want a true dual setup to get the advantages it offers and the sound it offers. I don't have the equipment or expertise to install a system at home and shops will not work with me unless I use cats. There are no emissions here in Michigan so I am unconcerned with "the man" interfering. I also frankly don't mind the prospect of running cats. The new ones work very well, aren't too expensive and have very little deleterious effect on performance.

read up on h pipes and x pipes.....they eliminate droning and give you more low end torque
