Default How far to press on power steering pulley...

My 1976 power steering pulley is not lining up with crank pulley when I press my power steering pulley on all the way. For those of you who have done this, how did you do it? Is there a little wiggle room or does it have to be pressed all the way to the back of the shaft? Thanks a lot in advance!!

usually your install tool will only push it on as far as it needs to go. but if it can push it too far, the shaft should be flush with the pulley end. if its off even a little you will have belt issues, squeaks, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to post a pic later, but when it is pressed on all the way, it sits too far back to line up with the add-on crank pulley...

Mine ended up being about 1/8 inch beyond flush. You can always fine tune it after it is installed.

use your puller to pull it out to the right spot

What do you mean "add-on" pulley, is it aftermarket?!?!?! If so that could be the problem.

i would fully seat the pulley and shim out the pump from the engine block using washers. you may need to add the same amount of washers to the stud on the pump that goes into the other bracket
