I am looking at a 1971 coupe that has a couple of stress cracks in hood and near the door handle. also the paint job is older. What is the cost of body work and paint jobs on a corvette? also this would be my first vette. thanks

Very difficult question to answer. Min $5000 to sky is the limit. If there are layers of old paint and it needs to be completely stripped, expect $10,000 plus. If it's original paint and only minor repairs prior to scuff and shoot you might get away with $5,000.

As Steve noted I would guess at least $5000 but most likely much more IF you get it painted my someone who has experience in painting older Corvettes before.. From memory just puffing out the final coat took about 40 hours of labor. on the last Corvette I had painted (show quality paint job however)

Just like the others have said depends on what you are looking at. Show quality 10-15, or a middle of the road 5-7.

Are you looking at actual stress cracks, or old lacquer paint?

Who will be doing the work? If you can do the work, you save money.

If you will not be doing the work, you will be paying for the expertise of others.

Once you have the car, you can get estimates.

Can you do any of the work on the car to knock the price down ? You will be amazed at what you are capable of doing after getting a few estimates. Try a small repair yourself. Take your time and see how it comes out. Build confidence, and do one panel at a time. Labor and materials arent cheap. I am going to paint mine at home. Been working on the body since last year, currently block sanding it. Picked up my paint the other day. This little box cost a small fortune. Good luck.

Since, you are looking at this car factor in what it will cost you to have it painted verses buying a nicer car with good paint, interior an good mechanical

I have been getting paint quotes for my C3. Prices have ranged from $5k - $10k. Depends how much bodywork needs to be done obviously.
