Default a question about afetmarket radios

i have a 1979 that has a radio from... 1982-3 ish ? its ugly and inop. i did read that there is a issue with putting in a newer radio because of clearance behind the radio. is this true ? I want a nice radio but i dont have alot to spend, i can always keep listening to the exhaust

Thanks

+1 I have a nice Sony deck. Exhaust is always fun to hear but after awhile some tunes are good too. Below is my Sony in my '81, fit fine after cutting the new bezel.

I installed a retrosound in my 81. Sounds great, 100W X 4 Max Power, SD/USB/Aux Inputs.

Many of the standard radio's will fit. You might want to look at the corvette suppliers, they have many options for a good price, and they all fit the existing opening.

just another suggestion if you want to keep the car original in appearance. there are companies out there that will take an OEM radio, leave the exterior original in appearance and convert the interior to all modern circuit board technology. they can build it as powerful as you want and add ipod connections, etc if you wish. just another option.

Kevin, The redesigned (and plastic) center bezels introduced in the 77 model year were designed to fit most of the GM radios of the time. There is actually more room behind the 77-82 clusters than there is behind the 68-76 cars.
