Hi sb,
The original F70 tires were just a hair under 27" tall.
Many new lower profile tires, 50 and 60 series for example, are too short and thus don't 'fill' the wheel well. They can be very fat, but make the car look like it's on roller skate wheels.
Just my view!
Regards,
Alan

Greetings!
I have 225/70 15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 RWL on my 1970 and
have been very happy with the look and the ride quality. I had BF
Goodrich Radial T/A on my 72' way back when and they are a fine tire
as well.
However, my 70' originally came with Firestone tires and since I didn't
want to drive on reproduction bias ply Wide Track Ovals, I thought
these were the next best thing in terms of appearance, but with a
superior ride quality.
My car still has the original springs (front and rear) and shocks with no sag or problems with the tires
bottoming out inside of the wheel wells. Here are a few views to give yourself an idea of just how nice they
look and fit on the car:

245/60-15 is also a nice size for 15x8 rally. Never hear of rubbing w/ that size but some folks report rubbing with 255/60-15 & up ... some do, others not, 245 never.
my '71 w/ OE rally has Jetzon Revenger GT 245/60-15 RWL. Diameter nearly same as OE bias tires. Very pleased. Same tire also by Cooper Cobra & more widely available. Oh, those are Non-directional, "mud & snow" rated tires so they handle, ride, wear & look great. I don't spend too much time over 110 ... perhaps most that sweat a speed rating are dreaming.
